06 Feb Women Reveal Why Exactly They Hate The #MeToo Movement
In October last year, many female Hollywood stars and employees spoke out against the formerly adored movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. Actresses like Rose McGowan, Gwenyth Paltrow, Lupita Nyong’o and Uma Thurman have all spoken out against Weinstein and their personal sexual abuse allegations. In fact, 97 women so far have revealed how Weinstein sexually harassed/assaulted and/or raped them.
Due to the scale and publicity of the Weinstein allegations, many women (and men, which we cannot forget) around the world spoke out about their own ordeals with sexual assault. The movement was dubbed the #MeToo movement, and it encouraged users on social media to name and shame their abusers, in an effort to put an end sexual objectification of women.
However, despite the obviously positive message the movement is attempting to spread, it is still facing backlash for multiple reasons. Some people believe the movement has turned into a “witchhunt”, whereas others believe the issue is far too serious to be trivialized to a Twitter hashtag.
The following list highlights the women who have shared their controversial opinions against the #MeToo movement on the annonymous social media site, Whisper:
1.
For some people, the movement is a painful reminder of the past…
2.
The voices of the real victims are being lost…
3.
Other people just aren’t a fan…
4.
It’s a social distraction from the serious issues…
