Woman With Stoma Bag Overcomes Her Illness To Become A Champion Bodybuilder

There are few things more traumatizing than suddenly falling ill. Getting a diagnosis for your ailment is a nerve-wracking time, and now that self-diagnosis is easier than ever before, it is easy for people to jump to terrifying conclusions.

But 25-year-old Zoey Wright is a testament to the fact that with the right attitude, you can overcome whatever life throws at you.

Back in 2012, Zoey realized that something was wrong when she began to lose weight for no apparent reason. This turned out to be the result of her bowel being attacked by white blood cells – a symptom of ulcerative colitis, a form of inflammatory bowel disease.

The effects of the disease were so extreme that she lost two stone over a four week period.

Those with ulcerative colitis frequently suffer from the inflammation of the large intestine and/or rectum, which can lead to severe abdominal cramps, rectal bleeding, and fatigue. The severity of the illness varies from sufferer to sufferer and Zoey’s symptoms were particularly bad.

Despite trying countless drugs to ease her symptoms, she was subject to incessant hospital visits. In fact, she almost lost her life.

Zoey, who is from Cornwall, England, then made the decision to have life-saving surgery in November 2014. In an attempt correct the problems caused by the illness, she had an ileostomy ostomy bag attached to the front of her stomach.

Now, three years on from the surgery, she looks completely unrecognizable after it changed her life in more ways than she could have imagined.
