21 Feb Woman With PCOS Learned To Love Her Extreme Body Hair Following Near-Fatal Accident
Having deep insecurities about your physical appearance is pretty much part and parcel of the human experience in 2018. Generally, however, we tend to be insecure about characteristics that other people wouldn’t be, and vice versa.
But it’s safe to say that in a world where people are heavily encouraged to shave their body, having “excess” hair is something that many women feel very self-conscious about.
In fact, 33-year-old Leah Jorgensen used to spend an exhausting amount of time shaving her body because she felt like a “freak”.
The behavioral health technician from Madison, Wisconsin, has polycystic ovary syndrome which causes her body to emulate male hair growth all over her body.

Since she was 14, Leah was severely bullied at school for her appearance. As a result, she became accustomed to covering as much of her body as possible. For instance, she would always wear long-sleeved shirts and pants.
As an adult, Leah began painstakingly shaving practically every inch of her body. In particular, she focused on her chin, upper lip, chest, stomach, arms, and legs.
Leah grew very anxious and apprehensive about how people would potentially react to her appearance. Unsurprisingly, she began to distance herself from people and says she didn’t have her first kiss until she turned 27.
“I had never seen women who looked like me,” Leah said. “I was so ashamed that I didn’t want to talk about it. My way of coping with that shame and embarrassment was to hide. My daily goal for a long time was to just get through the day without anyone noticing how hairy I was.”
