04 Jul Woman Somehow Transforms Herself Into Iconic Children’s TV Character Using Drugstore Products

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Well, if you grew up in the noughties or later, then you’ll know that the answer to this question is Spongebob Squarepants. The lovable yet infuriating character has been a staple of kid’s TV since 1999. Alongside a host of other characters, like Sandy the Squirrel, Plankton, and, of course, the eternally grumpy clarinet playing Mr. Tentacles – better known as Squidward.

Despite existing for almost twenty years, dressing up as these characters isn’t common. Sure, most of us have seen the odd guy in a Spongebob suit, but it’s not like many people have the means to make one of them in their kitchen cupboard. Or do they?

Meet Los-Angeles-based makeup artist Mykie. She’s known for her incredible ability to nail transformation challenges on social media.

Whether it’s dressing up as Pennywise the clown, or a terrifying undead zombie punk rocker, there’s nothing she can’t do in this department.

And for her latest transformation, she was challenged to turn herself into Squidward using only drugstore products.

So what exactly do you need to turn yourself into a character from under the sea? Well, you’ll have to invest in products such as a shower cap, a foam sword, a beauty blender, nipple covers, and last but most certainly not least, at least one condom for Squidward’s nose. 

So first thing’s first, Mykie had to cover up her long blonde hair to begin the process of creating her Squidward look.

After she’d used a shower cap to perfectly sculpt the shape of his head by filling it with cotton wool balls, she had to perfect his long, dangling (and to be honest, dong-like) nose.

This involved putting a beauty blender inside a condom and then stuffing the inside of the nose with cotton balls. She implied that it is worth rolling the condom over the beauty blender to make sure it doesn’t break.

The next thing that Mykie had to make was Squidward’s mouth and she had the ingenious idea of doing it using a foam sword.

She advised people to cut out the shape of their mouth so that it could be accurately stuck to their face.

As the picture below demonstrates, the foam from the sword can then be used to create Squidward’s eyes.

But obviously they aren’t going to be in quite the right shape, however, this is easily rectified using a mixture of cotton balls and lash glue.

Once you’ve made your eyes, you’ll have all the pieces you need to create your Squidward look.

But before you even begin to think about putting it together, you’ll need to be sure to turn everything green, something which Mykie did using a combination of green color correcting liquid and cream NYX products. She then left everything to dry overnight.

However, the next day, Mykie realized that there was something very important missing from her look and that was Squidward’s characteristic droopy eyelids – let’s face it, he wouldn’t be the character we’ve come to know and love without them.

Because the look consisted of so many different elements, even though Mykie is a talented makeup artist, she was worried that it wouldn’t come together successfully. But the only way of knowing for sure what it would look like was sticking everything to her face.

I’m not going to lie, this outfit looks painful to wear. Needless to say, Mykie was forced to breathe through her mouth instead of her nose.

Aware that her creation was going to look more than a little unsettling, Mykie decided to play on this by adding on squid-like bumps to her face using a combination of cotton balls and lash glue – clearly, it can be used for just about anything if you’ve got enough talent.

Another one of Squidward’s defining features is his long, thin neck, and Mykie created this painting the sides of her neck black with liquid eyeliner and making the center green. This resulted in a simultaneously impressive and terrifying final result.

It’s definitely not a PG Squidward look that I’d recommend showing to young children!

Reacting to the final look, YouTube user haveacookie wrote, “This is horrifying and I love it.”

Amazingly, however, Squidward is not the only character Mykie has created with drugstore products. So if you’re more of a Spongebob fan, you’re in luck!
