30 Jul Woman Shares Heartwarming Progress Of Her Baby Cousin, Born Addicted To Drugs
An issue which is often neglected or left undiscussed when we talk about drug addiction is the impact it has on children. For those people who struggle with an addiction, be it one that involves drink, narcotics or gambling, the negative effect it can have on your parenting is extremely concerning. Substance abuse is one of the main causes of neglect when it comes to children, and neglect can have a seriously dire effect upon a child’s social and physical development.
A report from Narconon, an organisation devoted to rehabilitation for addicts, states on the issue, “An individual who is drug dependent is usually driven by one thing, and one thing only: getting and using more drugs. They will neglect their relationships and their responsibilities, and give up the very things they once cared most to protect, including their children … Unfortunately, this means that there are many innocent children who are being horribly neglected by substance-abusing parents who are hardly fit to even care for themselves.”
The above image shows a child who knows exactly how damaging drug abuse can be. Coleman Hamilton is about to be adopted by his cousin Kaysi Hamilton. Coleman’s parents are both suffering from serious drug addictions, and were unable to care for him themselves. Coleman also suffered from a range of health problems as a direct result of his parent’s addictions, and he developed pyloric stenosis – something which necessitated a surgical operation on his stomach. In addition to this, baby Coleman also suffered from malnourishment and numerous other ailments.
But now, after 15 months in the care of his cousin, baby Coleman is already doing much better, and when Kaysi posted pictures showing how well he had improved physically in the last year and more, the heartwarming images quickly made netizens around the world sit up and take notice.
