Now we’ve all been told quite categorically by health experts that when it comes to feeding newborn babies, breast is best. Breastmilk builds up the strength in their delicate, fragile, little bodies and helps them to fight against potential illnesses during the early stages of a baby’s life.

And, as the breastfeeding advocates often say, it’s the most natural thing in the world, and therefore something that people shouldn’t be shamed for.

Yep, it’s safe to say that breastmilk is a pretty incredible and vital substance.

But usually, by a certain age, our mothers would have weaned us off breastmilk for good. And that’s because as we get older, breastmilk becomes less beneficial for our stronger, less vulnerable bodies.

And while we all know that there are some mothers who will insist on breastfeeding their little ones beyond the “acceptable” age, you’ve probably heard less about romantic relationships where one partner breastfeeds the other.

Thirty-six-year-old Jennifer Mulford from Atlanta has made the brazen and probably quite questionable decision to quit her job for the greater good of breastfeeding her 36-year-old boyfriend, Brad Leeson.

They are part of what is known as an “Adult Breastfeeding Relationships” which are typically made up of two consenting adult partners who get pleasure out of breastfeeding.

To help her lactate, Mulford drinks Mother’s Milk Tea (a herbal drink which supposedly imitates female hormones) up to three times a day. And she also takes a herbal pill called Lactiful to help her increase her milk supply.

In this case, Mulford is the ‘breastfeeder’ and she said of their bizarre arrangement in an interview with The Sun, “It was like a light switched flicked in [my boyfriend’s] head. I could tell from his voice that he was curious and excited.”

Because she has not yet had a baby, Mulford and her boyfriend have to ‘dry feed’ in order to recreate the bodily functions that normally only occur post pregnancy. It’s only then that her body is able to start producing milk.

Now while it is pretty vital that people in relationships have a close bond with their other half, there might be such a thing as being too close.

While people in relationships who are particularly close tend to be joined at the hip, Mulford, and Leeson are joined in a rather different way, namely his mouth with her breast.

Every two hours, Mulford will allow her boyfriend to latch onto her breast and so that he can feed despite being perfectly capable of eating other ordinary foods.

Mulford is so dedicated to their new lifestyle, that she even quit her job as a bartender. “I’ve taken a break from my job because I want to devote everything to making this work,” Mulford admitted.

Now one explanation for their unconventional lifestyle could have a little something to do with the fact that they are childhood sweethearts. Unlike most couples, they have known each other practically since the very beginning. This has allowed them to feel a sense of comfort that has built very organically over a long period of time.

While other couples would feel a sense of shame engaging in this kind of unconventional behavior, Mulford and Leeson have managed to transcend these boundaries.

But why would they even want to transcend those boundaries you might ask? Well, according to Mulford, breastfeeding isn’t just an act that can strengthen the bond between a mother and her baby, it can have the same effect on those in romantic relationships.

“At that moment I knew that I had a partner for life… We both wanted the same thing out of the relationship – a magical bond that only breastfeeding can achieve,” she explained.

While their story may seem outrageous to many, the truth is that Mulford and Leeson are both consenting adults who should be allowed to freely make their own decisions about what goes on in their relationship. Hey, perhaps they’ll even inspire future relationships in years to come.
