Woman Offers 21 Apartments to the Victims of Grenfell Tower

Last Wednesday’s tragedy at London’s Grenfell Tower has claimed the lives of at least 17 people. A further 17 are in critical condition whilst many residents of the 24-story tower block remain unaccounted for. Believed to have started on the fourth floor, the fire was reported at approximately 00:54 BST on Wednesday, June 14, but was only extinguished at 01:14 BST on Thursday. Forty engines and over 200 firefighters were needed at the scene to tackle the blaze.

Survivors of the incident have been left homeless, without their belongings, and have had to rely on support provided by friends and family.  Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council has offered emergency accommodation and financial assistance for displaced residents however, it is the response of fellow Londoners which is truly heartening. Community centres, churches and sports clubs have banded together to ensure that those affected by the fire have access to clean clothes, toiletries and food during this difficult time.

Individuals have also showcased their generosity, like student housing provider, Laura-Jayne Cannel who is offering 21 studio flats to those left homeless after the blaze.
