09 May Woman Ignores Her Husband On ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’, Then Loses Over $40,000

If I were to ever feature in an episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, I’d like to think that I would win the top prize. After all, how hard can it be? From the comfort of my couch, it looks relatively easy.

And yet, it’s not. Over the years, there have been very few people who have ever been victorious on the much-loved quiz show. It’s not for lack of trying, but for lack of general knowledge.

Take Lynn Buckingham, for example. The Cambridge-based contestant was left thoroughly red-faced when she lost everything on a question about British politics.

But it wasn’t her inability to answer the question that left her feeling rather foolish. Instead, it was the fact that she’d ignored her husband, who she’d phoned as part of the show’s ‘Phone a Friend’ option.

It is difficult to establish Lynn’s thought process given that she’d phoned her husband for help on a question she was clueless about – and with a potential £64,000 ($87,000) on the line, she couldn’t afford to just guess.

When he confidently provided her with an answer, she chose to ignore him. No doubt the audience were all internally screaming as she locked in the answer, well aware that she was putting her marriage on the line.

When the correct answer is later revealed, Lynn can be heard instantly crying out: “He’s going to kill me!”

Lynn had been hoping to take away a £1 million swag bag so that she could buy her husband a sports car and herself a new conservatory. But in the end, she was only able to squirrel away £1,000 in a pity fund provided to her by the show’s host, Jeremy Clarkson.

But that wasn’t all that Clarkson gave Lynn as she left the studio, he also recommended that she shouldn’t “go home tonight”.

Whilst it’s unclear how Lynn’s husband did react upon her return home, speculation has been rife online that the pair are planning to divorce due to the blunder.

Hopefully, that isn’t the case – maybe Lynn’s husband is the one better suited to quiz shows in the future!
