Falling ill and enduring chronic discomfort and pain is one of the worst things that can happen to you.

Life is short, but if your days are marked by unbearable pain, it’s very easy to feel like your life has lost all its purpose and potential joy.

Whilst it’s no secret that pain comes in a range of different forms, I doubt you have ever heard of a condition which makes the sufferer feel like they are on fire, and the only effective remedy for their pain is the freezer in their kitchen.

But this is an unfortunate reality for 23-year-old Paige Howitt, who suffers from a rare and incurable condition which she has described as being “worse than childbirth”. Things are now so bad for the young woman that she has to sleep next to the freezer.
