Why You Should Never Put Your Shoes on without Looking inside First

When heading out to the outside world, your shoes are likely the last thing you put on before you go through the door. So when you’re in a rush to make it to work or some other scheduled appointment, they’ll be shoved on without much attention paid to what you’re doing.

If I’m not running late, I have a habit of shaking the shoe to make sure there are not any small rocks inside. This isn’t good thinking, but just something I’ve had drummed into me by repeated run-ins with stray debris in my footwear.

It’s kind of baffling how often rocks and dirt can make their way all the way inside a shoe and make your day hell. The smallest pebble can have provide pain and discomfort much higher than you would expect from something so insignificant.

But that’s not the only reason to check your shoes before you put them on. There might be something a lot worse waiting for you when you next absent-mindedly place your feet in peril.
