Scrolling down social media sites these days, you could be forgiven for thinking that the world has no shortage of sperm to go around, with photos of newborn babies at practically every click and share. However, you would be massively mistaken for thinking so.

In fact, according to a new report, sperm counts among men living in the West have plunged by nearly 60 per cent in just 40 years – and the rapid rate of decline shows no signs of slowing down.

Reportedly, living in the modern world is doing serious damage to men’s health, with pesticides, hormone-disrupting chemicals, diet, stress, smoking and obesity all being “plausibly associated” with the sperm count decline. The news has many experts worried, with one even claiming that humankind could become extinct if the trend did continue.
