Growing up, there are few things more exciting than going to a restaurant for the first time without your parents. It’s a chance to feel like a real adult, even if you’re still in middle school, but sometimes the excitement of new experiences can cause teenagers to forget their manners.

Unfortunately, that’s what a group of 13-year-olds did while celebrating their homecoming, much to the annoyance of their waiter.

Anyone who has ever worked in a customer service role knows how infuriating it can be dealing with the general public. In the modern world, people are more impatient than ever before, and this can often leave you finishing your shift feeling exhausted and underappreciated.

This is especially the case for servers, many of whom rely on customer’s tips to significantly increase their hourly wage.

Taking to the photosharing website Imgur to express his disdain, the waiter in question revealed that he had been left a pittance as a tip after tending to the needs of a group of young teenagers who were celebrating their homecoming.

“Nothing more frustrating than when I get little to nothing for a tip and the customer is smiling and thanking me profusely as they exit,” he wrote.

“I’ve been serving a long time,” the waiter added, “nothing like this has ever happened to me, or anyone [I know].”
