Video Shows Vicious Shark Latching Onto Diver’s Stomach And Refusing To Let Go

There are plenty of things that scare me, but the fear of wild animals or deadly sea creatures perhaps isn’t as high as it should be. Of course, if I ever came into close contact with an animal that could easily kill me, I’d be terrified. However, I’ve only ever seen lions and tigers at the zoo, and as for sharks, I’m pretty sure I’ve only ever seen them on National Geographic.

It’s for that very reason that the mere thought of sharks isn’t enough to make me quiver. The 1975 classic, Jaws, never scared me much. Although, if I was tangibly confronted with a shark – no matter how small it was – I’d be petrified.

Furthermore, if I was in a situation where a shark was latching itself onto me without letting go, I’d probably collapse in sheer terror.

Ervin McCarty, from Green Cove Springs, Florida, endured a lot of people’s worst nightmares when he was attacked by a shark in the Gulf of Mexico. However, it wasn’t the kind of shark attack that you’d expect. The shark in question wasn’t an imposing great white, it was a relatively small nurse shark.

But it’s not about the size of the shark in the fight, it’s about the size of the fight in the shark!

The nurse shark very stubbornly latched itself onto McCarty’s stomach while the man writhed in pain and struggled to remove the creature.

Although the man didn’t receive any fatal injuries, you can imagine just how terrifying it must be to be in a position where a vicious creature is digging its razor sharp teeth into your flesh.

So, how did McCarty manage to find himself in this position in the first place? Well, it all started when he decided to spend Labor Day Weekend going spearfishing and lobster diving off the coast of Marathon in the Florida Keys.

McCarty had speared a grouper fish about 12 feet below the water and so dove in. That’s when the nurse shark clung onto him and stuck his teeth into his stomach.
