13 Jun Video Shows the Moment Kidnap Victim Is Discovered in Her Ex’s Van
Kidnapping is one of the most difficult and puzzling felonies for analysts and statisticians to comprehensively quantify, since the crime of kidnapping an adult is not recorded separately by the Uniform Crime Report. However, there are some estimated figures which can put the scale of kidnapping in the United States into context.
According to Todd Matthews, of the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (a national database for missing people), 90,000 people are missing in the USA at any given time on average. Of these victims, the majority of those people who have been abducted will be vulnerable women and children. Some are kidnapped for ransom, or for exploitation or sexual/physical abuse, and some are taken hostage in the name of revenge.
It’s relatively rare for law enforcement to catch kidnappers in the act, but this week a video circulating on social media has given shocked viewers a momentary glimpse of the arrest of an abductor in New Mexico, and the rescue of a victim who had been locked in the back of a van. Be warned: the following footage contains scenes that some viewers may find extremely upsetting.
