Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life. Yes, there’s a lot of stress that goes into planning the ceremony, but when it comes down to the actual day, you’d hope it would be unforgettable for all the right reasons.

Unfortunately, one bride from China won’t be forgetting her wedding day for all the wrong reasons.

A drunk man, one of the groom’s guests, tries to force the bride to bow to her in-laws in a bid to show her obedience.

The video, filmed in China, shows the man very aggressively directing the bride’s head towards the feet of her in-laws during the ceremony.

The bride is dressed all in red, as is tradition in China, was paying her respects to her mother and father-in-law.

The married couple were supposed to kneel in front of the groom’s mother and father and bow to show their respect. However, the groom’s drunk friend then begins to force her head towards the ground.

The video footage which has made waves on social media in China shows the man forcing the woman to her knees and holding her by the neck.

He then shoves her head downwards, compelling her to “kowtow” to her mother and father-in-law. The custom requires her to knock her forehead on the ground, but the defiant bride did not appreciate being forced to enact the gesture.

Kowtowing was historically practiced in imperial China until the final Qing Dynasty and was often enacted as a way for slaves to show their respects to their slave-owners.

The very bold woman stands up for herself by getting back up after the unexpected attack and slapping the man who then goes back into the crowd of wedding guests. Her relatives can be seen trying to allay the situation moments for the clip ends.

Of course, violence should never be seen as the answer to anything, however, what the man did was not only humiliating but also a violation of the bride’s personal space.

It’s fair to say that a lot of people would have reacted the way she did.
