There is something to be said for working tirelessly towards a goal.
You will have often heard individuals who have achieved great things against improbable odds talk about the rewards of the life they have lived. Of course, those rewards can often be quantified in terms of financial gain, or by fame and notoriety; but most people who have reached a certain level of greatness in their lives will tell you that the journey, the hard work, the blood, sweat and tears, is in itself the reward.
This is because, often, the changes in lifestyle required to meet one’s aims are alterations that even in an isolated vacuum would make for a better, more fulfilled existence. Having an ultimate goal in mind then, can have positive reverberations far beyond its own fulfilment.
To American patriot William Guinn Jr., the goal was clear; he wanted to follow in a path well trodden by his grandparents, and join the US military. Unfortunately, though, there was a problem; at 460 lbs in weight, Guinn Jr. was not even close to being fit enough to achieve his lifelong dream. That was in February 2016, when the prospects of Guinn Jr. becoming enrolled in the US military looked bleak at best. Today, it’s another story entirely.
