US Appeals Court Has Upheld the Decision to Block President Trump’s Revised Travel Ban

Donald Trump’s ascendance to the office of the Presidency has been an astonishing one.

Last year, the former businessman shocked the world when he won a Presidential election that many polls and opinions had predicted would culminate in a landslide victory for his opponent, Hilary Clinton.

To say that Trump has defied convention from the offset, then, is probably a fair analysis of events. Since he achieved that shock win in last year’s general election, President Trump has continued to dance very much to the beat of his own drum, lurching with alarming pace from polarising policy to inadvisable comment. Admittedly, he has not been aided by a series of hapless blunders from the closest members of his team, not least Kellyanne Conway who – in a bizarre turn of events – appeared to refer to a “Bowling Green Massacre” that had not, in fact, taken place. Undeterred, Trump and his administration have continued to fly, like Icarus, close to the sun.

While those optimistic that the bombastic, and at times divisive rhetoric that became the veritable calling card of the Trump campaign might be tempered once the former businessman assumed the office of the Presidency, large swathes of his advocates will have been delighted to see the President refuse to fall in line with more traditional Republican views and policies.

Indeed, it was mere days after entering the White House that President Trump signed an executive order on a travel ban that would see the citizens of several countries prevented from entering the United States. The ban was blocked in court, though temporarily. Now, a decision has been made by a US appeals court, and it is not good news for the Trump administration.
