26 Jun Trump Admits Russia Interfered in the 2016 Election in Series of Tweets Blaming Obama for the Whole Thing
On November 8 2016, the outcome of the US Presidential Election shocked many around the world, as Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton to take control of the White House for the next four years. The lead up to the election was shrouded in controversy – FBI director James Comey led an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail server, for example – but one of the biggest stories coming out of Trump’s Electoral College victory was the allegation that the election had been compromised by Russian meddlers.
Throughout his victory and presidency alike, President Trump has strenuously denied any kind of interference from the Eastern European superpower, saying he didn’t “believe they interfered”, and that the hacker in question “could be some guy in his home in New Jersey”. In the wake of new reports pointing to Russian interference, however, Trump has admitted that Russia may have had a hand in the 2016 Presidential Election, but in a flurry of tweets, aimed a swipe at his predecessor for failing to handle the situation.
