30 Jul Thomas Markle Insults Princess Diana During Extraordinary Nine-Hour Rant About Meghan And The Royal Family
For several centuries, the Royal Family has been one of the world’s most closeted establishments. Rarely have we, the people, been afforded a glimpse of the true state of affairs behind their gold gilded castle curtains. That is, until now…
The introduction of American former-actress Meghan Markle into one of the world’s most prestigious families has reignited a fire that last burned during the period of Princess Diana. Known as the “People’s Princess”, the late Duchess of Wales was famed for her provocative relationship with the media. As her marriage to Prince Charles – the heir to the throne – broke down during the 1990s, Diana found a new relationship with the paparazzi and news reporters.
After all, who could forget Diana’s unprecedented 1995 interview in which she revealed many embarrassing secrets about the Royals?
Prior to Diana, the flames of controversy and scandal had been stoked by the Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, who led a rather colorful life in the spotlight. And how could we forget the original fire starter, the Queen’s Uncle, Prince Edward, who abdicated the throne so that he could marry the American divorcee, Wallis Simpson?!
There have certainly been some shocking moments in the history of the Royal Family, but few can be as embarrassing as the current situation which Meghan Markle’s estranged family have caused. There appears to be no end to their willingness to slander the Royals via explosive television interviews where they bash the Duchess of Sussex and all those she associates with.
Listen to Thomas Markle give his first television interview. He threw plenty of shade at the Royal Family…

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, went on an extraordinary nine-hour rant about his daughter and his new in-laws, none of whom he has met.
Although he didn’t only stoop low enough to bash the current royals, he also took a dig at those from the past, including some scandalous accusations regarding his son-in-law’s beloved mother, Princess Diana.
Here are the highlights (well, low points) from Mr. Markle’s chaotic interview. There’s no doubt Meghan was left more than a little red-faced by this…
He believes Meghan owes him
“What riles me is Meghan’s sense of superiority. She’d be nothing without me. I made her the Duchess she is today. Everything that Meghan is, I made her. […] She became the woman that she is today thanks to everything I did for her. And did I get any recognition for it? Any thanks? She doesn’t even speak to me now. How cold is that?”
The palace has cut him off completely
“I’m really hurt that she’s cut me off completely. I used to have a phone number and text number for her personal aides at the Palace, but after I said a few critical words about the Royal Family changing Meghan, they cut me off. Those numbers were disconnected, they no longer work. I have no way of contacting my daughter.”
He thinks Princess Diana would object to his treatment
“They [the Royal Family] have Meghan treating her father in a way that Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, would have loathed. That’s not what Diana stood for.”
But he thinks that Diana was far from “perfect”
“Princess Diana is credited with changing the Royal Family, but she wasn’t perfect. She was still very much one of them. I think Meghan’s the one who’ll bring them into the 21st Century, if they’ll let her.”
He doesn’t care about Prince Harry
“I don’t care if Harry never speaks to me again, I’ll survive.”
He has respect for the Queen
“I have a lot of respect for the Queen. I think she’s done a tremendous job maintaining the dignity of the Royal Family in difficult times.”
He thinks the monarchy is unnecessary
“Who cares these days about a dusty old crown? Okay, maybe it’s been polished, but it’s an ancient institution, stuck in its ways.”
He thinks Prince Charles will make a good King
“I think the Queen has worn that crown rather well, and I think Charles will wear it well too, he’ll be a good king.”
He doesn’t recognize his own daughter anymore
“I blame the Royal Family. I can see the strain Meghan’s under, it’s in her face. The Royal Family has taken her back to the 1930s, and it’s ridiculous. Oh, she shows a little shoulder here, a touch of ankle there, but she’s not the Meghan I knew for years. You can even see her wondering whether she’s doing it right every time she crosses her ankles rather than her legs.”
Meghan is desperate to become a mother
“Meghan was apparently upset with me for saying that she and Harry will probably have a baby soon. But Meghan’s been saying that herself for the past six or seven years, talking about how much she wants a family. Harry’s been saying it too. That’s fine. But the moment I say it, I’m persona non grata.
I tell you, I’ve just about reached my limit with Meghan and the Royal Family. They want me to be silent, they want me to just go away. But I won’t be silenced.”
He doesn’t think he will ever meet his grandchild
“What’s sad is that some time in the next year Meghan and Harry will have a baby and I’ll be a grandfather, and if we’re not speaking I won’t see my grandchild. How tragic is that, to deprive a child of its grandfather because I said a few things critical of the Royal Family?”
“They’re just like a Monty Python sketch. Say a few critical words about the Royal Family and they put their fingers in their ears, cover their eyes and pull the blinds down. They don’t want to know about it.”
He doesn’t think he’ll see Meghan again before he dies
“Perhaps it would be easier for Meghan if I died. Everybody would be filled with sympathy for her. But I hope we reconcile. I’d hate to die without speaking to Meghan again.”
“If Meghan never speaks to me again, I don’t know how I can go on without my heart breaking.”
Meghan told him not to apologize for those staged photographs
In the weeks prior to Meghan’s wedding day, several photographs of Thomas Markle appearing to prepare for a trip to England were published online. However, those photographs weren’t all they seemed. It was later revealed that the snaps were all staged by Markle, with him being paid for the stunt.
“I’d spoken to Harry and Meghan and offered to make a public apology for the posed photos, but they said it wasn’t necessary. They said an apology would probably only make things worse by dragging the story out a few more days. Then an aide called me saying: ‘You have offended the Royal Family, but I can help you make an apology’.”
He thinks he deserves more credit than Meghan’s mother for raising Meghan
“Oh, she’s a mummy’s girl now and Doria gets a lot of the credit. But Meghan seems to have forgotten that she lived with me up until Doria and I divorced, when she was six, and even then I was still a big part of her life.”
“Whenever she finished school, I was the one who picked her up because I didn’t have to be at the studios until late and would then work until midnight. When Meghan was 11, she moved back in with me up until she was 17 and went to college. I was having my good years then, making good money, and could afford to give her the best, with a good school, good education, good home.”
“She became the woman that she is today thanks to everything I did for her. And did I get any recognition for it? Any thanks? She doesn’t even speak to me now. How cold is that?”
“Meghan got her attitude from her mother. Doria always told Meghan: ‘If they’re not doing anything for you, why should you do anything for them?’ I like to think that a little kindness goes a long way. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.”
He claims he didn’t fake his heart attack
Mr. Markle claimed he couldn’t attend his daughter’s wedding due to a heart attack. He then claimed to be undergoing surgery to unblock an artery in the days before the wedding. However, the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in San Diego, California, where Mr. Markle claimed to have had surgery denied ever admitting a patient under the name of Thomas Markle.
“It’s disgusting they said I didn’t have a heart attack. Hospitals are bound by confidentiality laws and when you check in you can say you don’t want your name on their records if anyone calls in to ask.”
He denies allegations that he is an alcoholic
“I hardly drink at all, just a little wine with my dinner, nothing much. I don’t do drugs, haven’t for more than 20 years… I don’t drink beer at all.”
He thinks Meghan’s fame has put him at risk
“I don’t worry about being kidnapped, even though it’s something that happens in Mexico, with wealthy people held for ransom. But it’s a concern that the more I’m written about the more kidnappers might consider me a target.”
Despite all the heartbreak, he loves his daughter
“Meghan is everything to me. I love her and I always will.”
“I feel for Meghan, because she does have a difficult family. But it’s still her family.”
It’s difficult to know if Meghan will ever reconnect with her father. However, her solo trip to the US in the next coming months could be a chance for the two to finally settle their differences.
