Imagine being 29 weeks pregnant, and on the way to the hospital because you’ve started experiencing contractions. But then the contractions begin to rapidly change, and you reach down to realise that you are giving birth in the car. Terrifying, right? Well, for this mother from Pennsylvania that was just the beginning. It was about to get a lot worse…

At 10am on August 5, heavily pregnant with her second child, Raelin Scurry began to experience contractions. At first, she thought they were simply Braxton Hicks contractions, so she didn’t immediately think to rush to the hospital. After all, she was still another five weeks away from her due date.

However, after 45 minutes of constant contractions, which were increasing in intensity, she decided it was time to go to hospital. Still calm, Scurry and her fiancé Ean, casually dropped off their daughter at her god mother’s, before making their way to the hospital. But, en route, the contractions started to get closer together and panic began to set in.

Before she could think about what to do, Scurry’s instincts kicked in and she knew she had to push. Whilst Ean drove, Scurry began to scream in agony. Desperate, she phoned 911, but they couldn’t hear her through her screams of pain. Unable to talk, she passed the phone to Ean. Meanwhile, she pulled her pants down, which was when she felt the head of her baby.
