In the last few years, there has been a huge increase in the number of people seeking to improve their fitness levels. Gym memberships have truly soared as more and more people start recognizing the need to maintain a strong and healthy body. However, when people make the decision to get into shape, it’s safe to say that choice will usually be made as an adult.
I mean, when was the last time you saw a ten-year-old working out at the gym? They’re far too busy playing out with their friends or playing on their iPads – whatever it is that kids do these days. But contrary to what you might have thought, it looks like the fitness hype has started filtering down into the younger generations.
Take ten-year-old Brooklynn Sittner who has been training in CrossFit since the tender age of seven:
The young athlete from Billings, Montana has huge aspirations and dreams of competing in the Olympics as a member of the USA Weightlifting team one day.
But before that, she is hoping to get the chance to compete in the teenage division of the 2021 CrossFit Games.
“Brooklynn lives and breathes her dreams every day,” Brooklynn’s dad explained. “Her focus and dedication are unexplainable. I believe her belief is what will get her to where she wants to go.”
So how did Brooklynn’s love for CrossFit even begin? Well, she was taken to the gym every day since she was seven and simply “fell in love with it”.
Speaking to Sled Pups, Brooklynn opened up about her daily training routine:
“I usually train 5-6 days a week, with one active rest day and one full rest day. Most days I do a couple workouts a day. Typically, I do a barbell segment, then a strength piece, then a conditioning piece or two.
Some days I add in skill work and structural work. Always working to improve something. Active rest days usually are some light conditioning, technique work, or mobility and stretching.”
It goes without saying that Brooklynn is a pretty special kid. She has an impeccable amount of drive and ambition and won’t stop until she’s reached all of her goals. We wish her the best of luck for her future and look forward to seeing her in the Olympics one day.
