10 Jul This Man Ended Up In Critical Condition After Dismissing Rare Condition As Flu
One major flaw that most men have, or at least most of the men I’ve met, (myself included), is the inability to ask for help. Whether it be assuring everyone that we know exactly where we are going and don’t need to ask for directions, or telling someone when we’re having a rough time and need some support.
But this is not just a masculine affliction. We all have the tendency to put things off, burying responsibilities under excuses and hoping that things will sort themselves out. This is especially true of going to the doctors, which I don’t think anyone on the planet enjoys doing.
When you are busy with work, family, and the myriad other responsibilities in your life you can dismiss a symptom or two as the product of stress, because you don’t want to take time off just for a doctor to politely insinuate you are a hypochondriac. But it is always best to be cautious, even if you think it might be an overreaction.
In the case of one British man this week, dismissing symptoms as unimportant lead to something much worse than a wasted doctor visit – a visit to the hospital.
