When I was in school, I wasn’t exactly the most popular kid growing up. As a quiet, shy and sensitive soul, I spent most of my lunchtimes by myself reading a book or picking at grass in a secluded corner of the school field. I think I was the kind of boy who could have really used a furry companion growing up. Unfortunately, my father was not a fan of cats or dogs, and I spent most of my younger days attempting to hang out with my goldfish, which went about as predictably as you’d expect.

Luckily, I eventually found myself and came out of my shell, but the notion of a four-legged friend is still one that appeals greatly to me, and this particular animal friendship warms me right up, turning me into a blubbering, emotional mess.
