Mayweather vs McGregor. The showdown. The big one. The fight of the century. The fight that has been going on for so long no one can really be bothered with it. If this fight was called 12 months ago, it would feel exciting. But the fact is, we’ve dealt with over a year of will-they-won’t-they smack talk, that to be honest, a lot of people are not fussed anymore.

That said, when the night comes around, I have no doubt I will watch it. I will pay the extortionate pay-per-view fee, get a pizza in, crack open a cold one and spend 12 boring rounds pretending I am more masculine than I actually am. During the final days of build up, I will sit with my colleagues and we will all pretend we know more about boxing than we actually do: “If McGregor lands one punch, man, it’s over”, “Floyd will just dance around him, he’ll just hold him off with a jab.”

All of this will happen. And one more thing that will definitely happen, is that I will bet on it.

And the person I will bet on is the person I shouldn’t bet on. I will put my money on Conor McGregor.
