These Photographs Show How Drastically The World Has Changed Over The Years

The world changes every day right infront of our own eyes. But, because we are so busy, we rarely stop to notice. One day the trees are richly laden with leaves, the next, they’re stark and bare. That’s just the way the world works.

However, that is an occurrence that nature schedules every year, so it is no phenomenon when the leaves begin to fall in Autumn. But, the severe changes the world is experiencing in other areas is certainly something we should be taking notice of.

These following photographs highlight how much our world has altered in the last 100 years. They’re too haunting to ignore…

1. Lake Oroville, California. July 2010 – August 2016.

Severe droughts in California saw Lake Oroville, the states second largest reservoir, become eerily empty. In fact, the lake became so dry that archaeology sites were exposed, and hundreds of Native American artifacts were unearthed.

2. Aral Sea, Central Asia. August 2000 – August 2014.

The Aral Sea, was originally one of the largest lakes in the world. However, since the 1960s, it has been gradually shrinking in size after the rivers that fed it were diverted to Soviet irrigation projects. Now, the sea is commonly referred to as a desert, and “one of the planet’s worst environmental disasters.”

3. Powell Lake, Arizona and Utah. March 1999 – May 2014

Lake Powell has catastrophically shrunk in size as a result of large water withdrawals being made for human consumption and agriculture in light of severe droughts which have plagued the area.

It is not just water that is evaporating across the globe. Something else is starting to go missing from landscapes too…
