There are those unforgettable moments in any teenage boy or girl’s life where they have been utterly and completely humiliated by a family member. Whilst I am now a full grown adult, those moments of humiliation I faced at the hands of my family members were so crippling that upon recollection of them, I still feel the urge to curl up into a ball and descend into the fifth chamber of hell.

And of course, it goes without saying that the family member gets extra points if the said embarrassment is staged in front of a crush.

Unfortunately, those moments of sheer agony are nothing other than a rite of passage. A more humiliating painful growth spurt, so to speak. And whilst it feels as if there could be nothing more terrible when you are in the moment, I promise that years later, you will one day look back and find them (almost) amusing. Hey, you may even recount one as an anecdote on your next Tinder date.

But even if you still can’t bear to think about it decades on, rest assured that your mum, dad or extended family still get an excessive amount of joy from that one memory of causing you misery in front of Sarah-the-horse-girl from grade 6 who was 100% going to be your future wife.
