The Latest Creepy Trend For Halloween Is Replacing Pumpkins With Pineapples

Jack-O’-Lanterns have long been associated with Halloween. The tradition began in Ireland way back in the 19th century, and now countless pumpkins with monstrous faces grace the doorsteps of homes around the world every fall.

Pictured below is an early example of an Irish Jack-O’-Lantern. Terrifying, isn’t it?!

The veil between the living and the dead is said to be at its thinnest at Halloween, and Jack-O’-Lanterns first were used to represent the spirits of the dead and to ward off any evil spirits that roamed the Earth during this time.

Carving a pumpkin on Halloween or shortly before is a tradition for many. Some even chose to carve smaller types of squash and turnips too. However, what people do not associate with the spookiest night of the year is tropical fruit.

But now the good people of the internet have started turning pineapples into Jack-O’-Lanterns. I’m not a fan of eating the actual inside of pumpkins, so the thought of eating chunks of pineapple instead actually sounds quite appealing.

People are posting their pineapple Jack-O’-Lanterns on social media accompanied by the hashtag #PineappleJackOLantern. I have to admit that the shape is perfect for creating a spooky face, and the spikes definitely add some extra creepiness!
