Brazilian-born Rodrigo Alves, also known as the “Human Ken Doll is notorious for funding what can only be referred to as an obsession with cosmetic surgery.

He has had 58 cosmetic procedures since he was 17, including butt lifts, nose jobs, chest implants, hair implants and a procedure which gave him an admittedly impressive artificial eight-pack! So far the work he’s had done has cost him a whopping $588,000!

Alves believes that our society was wrong to regard plastic surgery as a taboo. He aims to fight against this and prove to people that there are many benefits to drastically changing one’s appearance. He believes the benefits far outweigh the potential risks.

From what we know about the Human Ken Doll so far, he had a fairly ordinary childhood. However, there was one thing that set him apart from other boys his age. Unlike his peers, he became fixated on the Disney princes in his favorite animated movies, so much so that he desperately desired to become a real-life version of them.

Alves has always maintained that he was born in the wrong body and has spent his entire adulthood trying to reverse that.

For the last 17 years, he has carved himself into what he believes a real-life version of the Ken doll would like. Many people believe the look is alarmingly unnatural, but in spite of the opinions of the masses, he has continued to change his look.

“I get a lot of attention due to my artificial looks,” he says, “but I finally love myself and that is the most important thing of all.”

“People may think I am crazy,” he continues. “I am not. I have had psychological help. I was born in the wrong body.”

When Alves’ family saw him for the first time after he’d already had a number of surgeries, they were shocked. They staged an intervention and insisted that he see a therapist. After a year of therapy, Alves was diagnosed with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, a condition which gives sufferers a distorted perception of their physical appearance.

He insists that the only way to combat this disorder is to keep changing his appearance. So, what did he look like before his 58 surgeries?

Alves recently, and very unexpectedly, shared photographs of himself before he became known as the “Human Ken Doll”.

Despite being a cute kid and having no visible facial defects, he was bullied for his physical appearance at school. Kids made fun of him for supposedly having a “wide nose” but the taunts reached a whole new low when the bullies pushed his face into a urinal.

Alves’ plastic surgery journey began when he turned 17, which was when he underwent an operation to remove the extra tissue in his chest.

Alves was always unhappy with his figure which is why he has undergone 16 liposuction surgeries. This is what his body looked like before the liposuction.

Alves is very passionate about the topic of body image and believes that as a sufferer of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, he is the perfect spokesperson for it.

He has now become an ambassador for all things plastic surgery in his work with the Aesthetic Academy in the USA. As part of his work for the organization, he speaks about the negative perceptions people have about plastic surgery and how cosmetic procedures can actually be used to help sufferers of Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

There are many people who believe Alves’ many plastic surgeries have stemmed from him being mentally unstable, however, he insists that he is perfectly capable of making decisions to drastically alter his body. His obsession with plastic surgery is undeniably abnormal, but then again if he’s happy with it then who are we to judge?
