28 Jul Texas Schools Bring Back Corporal Punishment To Fight Bad Behaviour
It may seem like corporal punishment is a thing of the past, and put into practice very little in the 21st century, but there are far more uses of the deterrent in the United States than you would think. Currently, 15 U.S. states permit corporal punishment in their schools. Around 30 states prohibit its usage, while seven others neither permit nor prohibit it, with no specific law on the matter included.
The subject is still one up for debate, with proponents of corporal punishment claiming that it teaches children respect for their elders and can turn even the most troublesome of students into well-behaved pupils simply by the deterring them from breaking the rules.
However, others believe that under no circumstances should any physical pain be inflicted on a child in the name of behavioural management, and question the efficacy of such actions. Amidst this debate, three schools in Texas have revealed their plans to bring back corporal punishment in order to fight bad behaviour; and it will be the parents who decide whether it happens or not.
