Teenager with Dairy Allergy Tragically Dies after Eating a Kebab

We might scoff, but for some people, living with allergies is a serious issue. When exposed to the stimuli that force them into having an allergic reaction, it can result in a life-threatening medical emergency. I myself have suffered from an incredibly bad case of hay fever for several years, and every summer, inhaling the slightest amount of pollen will quickly reduce me to a miserable, wheezing, snotty mess, with swollen eyes and angry red rashes covering my body.

But I consider myself lucky! There are some people who can be sent to hospital by something as trivial as a bee sting, or who will suffer an anaphylactic shock just by coming into contact with a bowl of shrimp. These people consider every trip to a restaurant to be a source of tension, a brush with harmful contaminants that could very easily end their lives.

In her memoir, entitled Don’t Kill The Birthday Girl: Tales from an Allergic Life, author Sandra Beasley states:”Allergies are widespread – and frequently misdiagnosed. There is a whole range of symptoms and degrees of sensitivity, and these symptoms can change for any individuals at any given time. For those with allergies like mine, each day requires vigilance in terms of what we do, the company we keep, and where we sit in relation to that bowl of mixed nuts.” Beasley suffered from a plethora of food allergies, and came close to dying several times over the course of her life.

Beasley managed to survive into adulthood to share her hyper-allergenic memoirs with the world, but many people are not so fortunate. This week, a doctor’s inquest has proved that the tragic death of a 15-year-old girl was the result of her eating a kebab, which proved fatal thanks to her lethal food allergy.
