Being a parent is one of the greatest responsibilities you can have in life. From the moment your child is born until the day you take your final breath, you do everything in your power to keep them safe and on the straight and narrow. Even when your baby has flown the nest, you still want to make sure that they are alright at all times – even if they aren’t in the same country as you. It really is a lifelong commitment.
After all, the world is full of danger. Even when your child is in your sight, that doesn’t mean that they are out of harm’s way. I should know – back in 1997, I nearly gave my mom a heart attack when my childish curiosity got the better of me and I decided to put my hand on the hob. But that had nothing on the hemorrhage I suffered a few years later – an experience I only survived because my dad was able to keep me calm.
The incident was an unfortunate one. I’d recently had my tonsils removed and a vein at the back of my throat burst a few days later while I was on the phone with a friend. I’ll never forget the sheer panic I felt when I saw a few drops of blood splatter onto the phonebook.
I ran to the bathroom shouting, “My throat’s bleeding!” Luckily, my dad was able to keep me calm – and more importantly conscious – as I lost a sink’s worth of blood. By the time the ambulance arrived, I was barely conscious, but his actions prevented me from choking to death.
On the subject of superhero dads, if you thought my father’s actions were impressive, then you’ll be even more astounded by this Indonesian dad who used his lightening-fast reflects to save his two young children from a bloody and untimely death on December 22, 2016.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV and shows the heart-stopping moment when the bike mechanic leaps into action to save his children from a fast-moving vehicle – and I can assure you that seeing it for yourself is more impressive than any Hollywood movie.
The near-miss took place at around 9 am in the area of South Jambi in Indonesia on the road Raden Wijaya. In the footage, the dad can be seen repairing a bike while his two young children play behind him. Then, from nowhere, a Toyota car rolls past completely out of control.

The shocking footage was posted to the Taiwanese Facebook group Gossip Village and was immediately shared thousands of times on the website.
Without stopping to think for even a split-second, this superhero dad leaped into action and managed to put his arms around both of his children and drag them away from the vehicle. He then does a backward roll while holding his children and escapes the car with just inches to spare.
It was revealed in the Jambi Tribune that the incident took place at the Selatan Jaya Motor, a small local garage. Thankfully, neither the dad or either of his children suffered any injuries, but naturally, the police were called to investigate after the near-miss happened.
Anwar Sutanto Chen, who released the surveillance footage, described the superhero dad as his employee and best friend.
The internet was awash with compliments for the dad, whose name is not known.
YouTube user Lewis Messam wrote, “I’m not even gonna lie, that dad is sick! Nice reflexes bro!”
“[What] a bloody legend, they [can’t] even make it look that good in a movie,” added nadz yea.
“[Jesus Christ], this had me tearing up. [A] half a second late and those kids are gone. [That] father is an angel,” remarked Steven Herandez.
While Raven Thorne emphasized just how much of a near-miss this really was by writing, “OMG! That was so close! What if he hadn’t looked up when he did? I’m glad you and your children are ok. AWESOME save too!”
It just goes to show that when a child is in danger, their parent really can don a superhero cape to save them from harm!
