We live in a world where long-held attitudes are rapidly changing. In the not-so-distant past, it was generally believed that there were just two genders, members of the LGBTQ+ community weren’t allowed to get married, and transphobia was even rife.

However, there is still one group of people who are almost universally condemned – sex workers.

Despite the fact that most of us can attest to watching pornography, we shame the very people who turn us on. The recent untimely deaths of a number of sex workers like August Ames are proof of this. It is easier to shame people than to make their jobs safer.

Now one stripper has spoken out about her profession and how being a sex worker makes her a better mother.

Thirty-one-year-old Elle Stanger lives in Portland, Oregon, with her five-year-old daughter, and she spends three days a week stripping. In the past, she earned money being a webcam model, writing erotica and selling her own porn.

Of the latter, she said, “Me and my partner just made our own – that was fun.”

Elle says that she is “proud” of what does for a living, but struggles with the “judgemental” stares of other parents.
