What is the deal with fidget spinners? How on Earth did they become so popular? Someone bought one for me, and while I get that it’s pretty fun to just spin something around constantly, I still don’t understand how they’ve become a worldwide phenomenon.

Nowadays, you see kids with all kinds of customised spinners; you get models that look like they have blades on them, others have flashing lights, and some have bluetooth speakers so that your child can listen to music whilst spinning – because, why not?

The toy was initially created to help those who can’t stop fidgeting and many people have claimed they are effective in helping people with ADHD or anxiety. Some users of the gadgets have reportedly said that fidget spinners have gone so far as to help them stop biting their nails, so I might have to start using mine again.

However, two concerned parents are spreading their accounts of fidget spinners blowing up due to shoddy manufacturing, and are warning others to be careful about what they are buying.
