Simon Cowell Confirms Star-Studded Charity Single in Support of Grenfell Tower Victims

The city of London has been beset by many unfortunate tragedies in the last year, the latest of which has possibly claimed more lives than all the others combined. On June 14, the Grenfell tower block, a 24-storey block of apartments in the Borough of Kensington, suddenly caught fire at approximately 1am. Sadly, many sleeping residents were left trapped inside during tall burning building with no means of escape. Scores of firefighters, 40 fire engines and a number of other emergency services were summoned to the scene, but the human cost has still been astonishingly high.

Police have confirmed that 30 people have perished as a result of the fire; although police investigators and firefighters suspect that the death toll will likely increase in the coming days. Approximately 600 people are suspected to have inhabited the building at the time of the catastrophe, and a further 70 are still missing.

A number of people have been left homeless and without basic provisions, but charity appeals have been launched in response to their plight. The Salvation Army and the British Red Cross, among other local organisations, have since created a number of initiatives to try to raise money, but it is clear that it will take a lot of generosity to aid the survivors and the victim’s families.

However, it seems that some much-needed help is about to come from a celebrity benefactor and music industry mogul. Über-famous record producers and talent show host Simon Cowell has come to the rescue and pledged to organise a charity single in support of those affected by the fire.
