10 Jul Shia LaBeouf Has Been Arrested For Being Drunk In Public And Disorderly Conduct
When Shia LaBeouf first gained recognition in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens, few might have expected the Los Angeles-born actor to become the controversial figure he is today. LaBeouf won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2003 for playing Louis Stevens, and has since gone on to star in several blockbusters including thriller Disturbia, the Transformers franchise and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In October 2016, he and English actress Mia Goth participated in a commitment ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada – having dated since 2012.
However, Shia’s erratic antics have overshadowed his personal and professional achievements in recent years. In February 2005, he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after being arrested by Los Angeles Police on account of driving his car into his neighbour’s. Two years later, he refused to leave a Chicago Walgreens when asked to exit the premises by a security guard and was arrested for misdemeanor criminal trespassing as a result. The following year, he was arrested yet again after failing to appear in court for a ticket he had received for unlawful smoking in Burbank, California. Later in 2008, LaBeouf refused to take a breathalyzer test after being involved in a car crash, which led to another arrest – this time, for misdemeanor drunk driving.
This was not his last run-in with the police: the 31-year-old actor was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass at New York’s Studio 54 theater. He reportedly refused to leave the venue where Alan Cumming was starring in musical Cabaret while allegedly spitting and swearing at officers who responded to the scene. In addition to this legal woes, La Beouf has also been accused of plagiarism, following identified similarities between his 2013 short film Howard Cantour.com and 2007 comic Justin M. Damiano. He later took the film down after releasing it online, explaining that he was simply “inspired” by the comic and “got lost in the creative process” and stressed that he had “great respect” for the comic creator Dan Clowes. This accusation was exacerbated by allegations that even his apology had been plagiarized from a 2010 post on Yahoo! Answers. Having faced a myriad of controversial criticisms and legal issues, LaBeouf is in the news yet again for just that, following an arrest for public drunkenness.
