There are few things more complicated than relationships. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that even the most complex minds on this planet struggle to comprehend exactly how a relationship works.

The reason for this is that every union is different. There are no two partnerships that are the same. Of course, this individualism is extremely important, but at the same time, it presents a lot of problems. Because, whilst we all may like to think that we are accepting creatures when it comes to relationships, we can suddenly find ourselves becoming quite judgemental.

Recently, evidence of this has come in the form of pop singer Ariana Grande who has hit the headlines for her intense relationship with Saturday Night Live star, Pete Davidson.

The high profile couple have received a great deal of criticism for their rather rushed relationship, which began back in May, shortly after Grande split from her long-term boyfriend, Mac Miller and Davidson dumped his girlfriend of several years, Cazzie David.

It is unclear exactly how their romance began, but many have hinted that it first blossomed when they appeared on an episode of Saturday Night Live together in 2016.

Initially, their relationship garnered a great deal of support from the 25-year-old singer’s fans. However, this quickly turned sour when it was announced that the duo were engaged after only a few short weeks of dating. Almost instantly people began to question the legitimacy of their love.

But before the world could truly get their heads around the union, another A-list star dropped some big news. Just weeks after Davidson confirmed he’d proposed to Grande, Justin Bieber did the unthinkable by popping the question to model, Hailey Baldwin.

The surprise proposal came just months after he split with his on-off again girlfriend, Selena Gomez and mere weeks after he began to publicly date Baldwin, who’d previously been rumored to be dating singer Shawn Mendes.

Of course, both of these proposals must have been overwhelming for Gomez who is closely connected to both couples. However, the 25-year-old pop star has remained very quiet with regard to her opinions on the whirlwind romances. Until now…

During an interview with Clevver News to promote her latest film, the animated Hotel Transylvania, Gomez was cryptically asked what her character in the movie would think to Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s shock engagement.

Of course, Gomez and Grande have worked together on multiple occasions, having both forged their hugely successful pop careers on the Disney channel.

Clearly uncomfortable with the question, Gomez laughs whilst awkwardly looking left to her co-star, Andy Samberg, who has coincidentally starred alongside Pete Davidson on Saturday Night Live.

“What would Mavis say? What would you say?” asks Samberg, before shouting: “Congratulations!”

Gomez, meanwhile, is a little more reserved. “I honestly don’t know what Mavis would say, but I would say that it’s amazing and beautiful.”

Thankfully the interviewer stopped short of asking Gomez how she felt about the news of her ex’s recent engagement. Although, it’s safe to say that the former Disney star will likely be less supportive.

To add to the cringe, it would appear that Bieber is still sporting a tattoo of Gomez’s face on his arm. Even worse is the fact that the tattoo is situated on Bieber’s left arm, just above where his wedding ring will sit.

Of course, the internet is quite repulsed by this idea. Taking to Twitter, hundreds of Bieber and Gomez’s fans have said exactly what they think about the rather ill-thought-out inking…

Their concerns and criticisms echo those given by Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson fans several weeks ago when the pair began to get very personal tattoos of each other despite having only been dating for a week.

It began with Davidson’s tattoo of Ariana’s iconic Dangerous Woman bunny ears, then he got her initials embedded onto his finger. Then the pair got matching cloud tattoos.

Grande responded by getting Davidson’s father’s firefighter number tattooed on her leg to commemorate the hero who was tragically killed whilst trying to rescue people from the Twin Towers during the 9/11 terror attacks.

Between the tattoos and premature engagements, it’s safe to say that these two couples are the ones to watch – maybe that’s exactly what they want. After all, the Kardashian family have made a fortune as a result of their clever PR stunts.

If that is the case, who could be the next celebrity couple to announce their engagement after a short romance? We have already had Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle… it’s only a matter of time before another eager couple announces their union!
