10 Jul Saudi Arabia Links To The Funding Of Extremism In The UK Are ‘Growing’
After over a decade without a major attack of note, the United Kingdom has suffered from three major acts of terrorism in the space of a few months.
In March, 52-year-old Khalid Masood killed four people on Westminster Bridge when he drove into them with a car. In late May, the city of Manchester suffered 23 fatalities and over 250 casualties when 22-year-old British Muslim Salman Ramadan Abedi set off a homemade bomb following an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester Arena, and last month a van drove through pedestrians in Central London, injuring 48 and killing eight.
All three of these attacks have been linked to Islamic extremism. In an attempt to explain the sudden influx of attacks in the country, a foreign affairs think tank have looked into the funding of hate preachers and violent groups promoting Jihadi violence. To that end, Saudi Arabia have been identified as the chief promoter of extremism in the United Kingdom, and the think tank have called for a public inquiry.
