The long-held vision of the Mexican as a troublesome individual who migrates to the United States to blend crime and atrocity into the lives of Americans has persisted for years, and often it seems like there is no end in sight for this damaging notion.

All Americans who have an ounce of common sense and decency about them know this damning depiction for what it really is: Ignorant, obscene, and just plain racist. No ifs or buts about it. Regardless, this stereotype has seeped into the essence of much of American society, rendering prejudicial behaviour an everyday occurrence in the modern-day land of the free.

One such shocking example was seen in a post made on Imgur by a person behind the account name “Goddamn Giant Gay Mexicans”. The mystery individual posted a shocking story about the racism that regularly occurs in his friend’s community.

He or she began by explaining how the community in question is majority white and people of other ethnic classifications are rarely seen; they then went on to reveal that their friend, who has a mixture of Portuguese, Japanese, Swedish and German heritage, had fallen victim to neighbours who used to always call security on him in the belief that he was Mexican.

After more than 11 years of living in the area, the “Mexican-looking” resident became tired of always having to explain himself to the incredibly sheltered society and decided he would teach one racist neighbour in particular a desperately-needed lesson.
