20 Jul Racist Customer Is Banned From Steakhouse After Leaving This Appalling Message For Waiter
Anyone who thinks being a server is easy has clearly never worked in the restaurant industry before. Waiters and waitresses may be paid one of the lowers salaries in the country, but that certainly doesn’t mean it is easy work.
It’s physically and emotionally draining, as you’re on your feet all day, you usually get paid peanuts and worst of all, you have to deal with unreasonable and potentially aggressive customers on a daily (or even hourly) basis.
It can also be incredibly disheartening when you’ve worked your butt off all day and don’t even get as much a single cent in tip money. (Obviously, if you haven’t been the best at serving your customers, then you may just have deserved your lack of a tip.)
If you have provided a particularly outstanding service, you may just get the reward of a lifetime, like this Waffle House waitress:

Recently, however, one waiter was robbed of his tip, not because the service was below par, but because of one outrageously prejudiced presumption.
The waiter, who works in a Texas steakhouse, was absolutely horrified at what was scrawled on the check he’d just given a table he had been serving.
The waiter’s name is Khalil Cavil and he was working what he thought was an ordinary shift when he noticed one particular table he’d waited on had not left a tip.
Yes, despite the fact that the bill came up to a pretty hefty $108.73, the customer at the Saltgrass Steak House in Odessa wrote the number zero in the space designated for the tip amount.
But moments after, Khalil would discover something much worse, something truly disgusting.
Right at the top of the receipt, the customer – who he has just served an entire meal to – wrote: “We don’t tip terrorist [sic]”, and also circled his name, “Khalil Cavil”, to clarify why exactly they assumed he was a ‘terrorist’.
To say the waiter was appalled by the treatment would be an understatement. In fact, so disgusted was he that he decided to share a photo of the offensive receipt on his Facebook page, writing:
“Last night at work I received this note from one of my tables. At the moment I didn’t know what to think nor what to say, I was sick to my stomach. I share this because I want people to understand that this racism and this hatred still exists.”
“Although this is nothing new, it is still something that will test your faith. All day I’ve had to remind myself that Jesus died for these people too. ‘I have decided to let this encourage me, and fuel me to change the world the only way I know how. So to all the haters out there, keep talkin, your only helping me step into my destiny! [sic]”
The post was ultimately shared more than 20,000 times by Facebook users who were understandably upset by the prejudiced comment.
“I am so sorry you have to deal with this BS. I and most Americans stand with you,” one commenter wrote. “This is so heartbreaking to see. Just remember most Americans do not feel this way.”
“I’m so sorry you had to experience this it makes me so sad that this form of hate exists in our world,” wrote another. “Stay strong bro and really happy to see you’ve dealt with this issue with so much grace and intelligence.”
Servers are treated appallingly on a daily basis. Recently, surveillance cameras captured a waitress being touched inappropriately by a customer:

Incredibly, some of the sympathizers have even gone as far as to send Khalil money to make up for the fact that he didn’t get a tip.
Some days after his initial post went viral, Khalil wrote an update on the situation and revealed that he would be donating the unspecified amount of cash he received to his local church:
“Once again, I want to thank everyone for all of the loving support. Most of all I want to thank my family who has stood by me during this hectic week. I want to thank everyone who has messaged me over these past few days.”
“There has been so much support and encouraging messages that it’s been hard to keep up with all of them. But to all of the people who have sent me money I want to thank you as well.
I want to make it very clear that this was never about the tip nor the money. It was about shedding a light on racism and sharing the love of Jesus.”
“It was about igniting conversations because I believe real change happens when we start talking about the issue and acknowledging it’s there. So thank you to everyone who has invested in me over these past few days.”
Terry Turney, the COO of the steakhouse told USA Today that the customer has now been banned from the restaurant. “We stand by and support our employee,” he said. “Racism of any form is unacceptable.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself!
