From the moment that they are born, parents have a duty to embarrass their children as much as possible. Today, it’s easy: it starts with an embarrassing snap when they’re little, then it’s ramped up with cringe-inducing stories when they bring their friends home, and there’s always social media to make sure those shameful snaps are able to travel far and wide. But years ago, parents had to be a little more creative with their embarrassment, had to put a bit more work in if they were going to successfully mortify their children.

There are probably few parents though, who could go quite a grand as Princess Diana when it came to shaming their offspring – after all, when you’ve got the kind of means, money, and audience that only a royal mommy is capable of, you may as well go all out to amuse yourself.

Famously known for making sure her kids knew how to keep it real – she made them queue like everyone else at Disneyland and even secretly took them on London’s public transport – there was no way Diana was going to miss out on a golden opportunity like William’s 13th birthday.

Now, for most people, the start of your teenage years brings with it goofy braces, unexpected hair and a sudden interest in all things grown-up, including the opposite sex. And according to her former chef, Darren McGrady, Diana found a rather, ummm, uniquely fitting way to welcome the young prince into teen-dom: with a royally great pair of knockers. Yep, you read that right; tits.

Of course, if you’re going to seriously embarrass your eldest son, you’ve got to have a solid group of people to do it in front of so Diana decided to throw Wills a little birthday bash. With a little black book like the world’s most glamorous woman must have had, there was quite the supply of possible guests – Michael Jackson and Elton John were reportedly among her personal friends.

Apparently, Diana didn’t invite just anyone though, and instead chose to call upon the world’s most famous supermodels and most desirable women to come and wish her son a happy birthday. In fact, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington, and Naomi Campbell all waiting for him when he got home from school. As you do.

So what actually went down at this party then?

Well, it seems it wasn’t quite in keeping with the kind of stuffy party you might expect from a royal. Darren explained to Hello! magazine: “I came into work that morning and went down to the refrigerator, opened the door and I was just confronted with the biggest pair of boobs I’ve ever seen in my life. The Princess had ordered a boobs cake for William’s 13th birthday.”

“I wish I’d taken a photograph of it!” he added. “I didn’t know anything about it, I just thought, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I asked the butler, ‘What on earth is this?’ and he said the Princess had ordered it for William’s birthday.” Perhaps we should expect nothing less from “one of the naughtiest parents”, as Harry once described her. I mean, even her official photos look a little bit sassy.

Understandably, William didn’t react too coolly to being presented with a giant pair of boobs in a room full of attractive women, not to mention his own family: “He went bright red”, said Darren. Poor little lamb.

Presumably, Wills’ little brother Prince Harry would have been there too, just to add to the awkwardness.

But apparently it wasn’t only her kids that Diana enjoyed embarrassing, as Darren also shed some light on the late Princess behind the press reports, highlighting that she also had a devilish sense of humor: “The Princess loved embarrassing people in the nicest way, in a fun way, whether it was telling a dirty, risqué joke – which usually got me. ”

They say that there’s a lesson in every situation in life and in this one it appears to be this: the perfect recipe for leaving your kids red-faced is an almost x-rated cake, the rest of the family and a room full of gorgeous supermodels.
