09 Jan Prince Harry’s Ex-Girlfriend Wrote This Cryptic Instagram Message After The Engagement Announcement

The engagement announcement of Prince Harry and American actress, Meghan Markle, prompted mass mourning across the globe as those who’d hoped to marry the red-headed Prince had their hearts unceremoniously crushed.

Cries of “It should have been me!” echoed through the air on Monday when the 33-year-old confirmed that he’d be riding the express train out of bachelorhood – a place the Prince had comfortably resided for many years.

However, one person who felt the pain more potently than others was 28-year-old Cressida Bonas, the last long-term girlfriend that Prince Harry publicly dated before finally settling down with the 36-year-old Suits actress.

Bonas, an English actress and model, began dating Prince Harry in 2012 after the pair were introduced by Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie. It is believed that their romance officially began when they both attended The Valley Festival in May of that year.

For the following two years, the 28-year-old was often seen following dutifully behind the fifth in line to the throne, as they were showered with the incessant flashes of the paparazzi’s cameras.

Bonas, who is the granddaughter of Edward Curzon, 6th Earl Howe, was clearly uncomfortable with the intense media interest that came complimentary with her relationship. Instead, the blonde beauty preferred to lie low, leaving events via the back entrance with her beau.

The fledgling relationship came under extreme pressure in August 2012, when Prince Harry was photographed naked in a Las Vegas hotel room, after playing a game of strip billiards with several unidentified women.

Unsurprisingly, Bonas didn’t see the funny side of the scandal, and their relationship cooled as a result.

To add further strain to the couple, Prince Harry was deployed to Afghanistan for the second time, where he spent 20 weeks on tour of duty. Despite the long-distance relationship, the couple reportedly stayed close with the Prince often writing to his love.

A few weeks after Harry returned from Afghanistan, the couple were photographed embracing on the ski slopes in the exclusive resort of Verbier – the same resort where, this year, Prince William was controversially videoed dancing in a nightclub after boycotting the Commonwealth Day service to go on a lads’ holiday, but hey, he’s definitely going to be king, Harry isn’t.

Throughout 2013, the couple was spotted together multiple times, mainly at music festivals, concerts and West End shows. They also spent a romantic weekend together at the Queen’s private home in Norfolk, which prompted the press to hint that an engagement would be imminent.

The following year started turbulently for the couple after Bonas’ stepfather, Christopher Shaw, was found dead in his home after allegedly committing suicide. But the young prince was there to comfort her through the difficult time.

However, only a few months later, after the couple enjoyed a skiing holiday together, it was reported that they’d amicably split. Although, if Bonas’ latest Instagram post is anything to go by, they didn’t end on such great terms…

Following the announcement that Prince Harry had popped the question to his girlfriend of a year and a half, Meghan Markle, Bonas made an Instagram post that’s caused many people to speculate about what really happened at the end of her relationship with Harry.

Bonas, who appears in James Arthur’s latest music video for his single ‘Naked’, took to Instagram to upload a quote reading, “No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people ultimately tells it all,” which she captioned with the word, “Truth.”

The post came just 24 hours after Prince Harry’s engagement was announced, leading many to believe it was a direct reference to her former beau.

Bonas, who regularly posts inspirational quotes on her Instagram page, is yet to comment on the news which could be simply because she is too busy relaxing after returning from a trip to India with her current boyfriend, Harry Wentworth-Stanley.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will wed at Windsor Castle in May, and we cannot wait to see the dress!
