21 Nov Playboy Takes Another Step Towards Inclusivity By Shooting A Stunning Plus-Size Model
When you think of Playboy, usually the very last word that comes to mind is ‘inclusivity’. After all, it is an adult magazine that plays on society’s very narrow definition of beauty in terms of the range of body types it features.
Playboy is all about slender, scantily clad women with incredibly long legs and huge assets. This is something which its late founder Hugh Hefner clearly loved, dating many of the women who appeared in his magazine.
This has had the effect of causing people who are attracted to a range of body types from finding nothing to cater to their taste in Playboy. In fact, they’d be forgiven for thinking that only on look has any kind of sex appeal.
However, with the increasing number of online campaigns geared towards the fair and equal representation of all types of people in society, even Playboy has decided they have to step up their game.
Last month, the X-rated magazine made history by appointing their first ever trans playmate, Ines Rau.
It was a remarkable and wholly unexpected decision that was applauded by many people, and it left transphobic keyboard warriors crafting a brand new set of “Hugh Hefner would be turning in his grave” memes.
Little did they know that Rau was not the first transgender woman to appear in Playboy, she was simply the first transgender Playmate. The first transgender woman to post for Playboy, Caroline Tula Cossey, appeared in 1991.
Well, I’m sure those same keyboard warriors will have something to say about an even more recent move the men’s magazine has made. And what was that exactly?
Well, this month, Playboy has centered their most recent photo shoot around a plus-size model, and it is stunning.
