Piers Morgan Clashes With Gender-Fluid Guest Who Decides If They Are Male Or Female When They Wake Up

In recent decades, society has dramatically moved forward when it comes to its understanding of sexuality and gender. This has especially been the case for gender, and now a number of steps are being taken to raise awareness of the fact that it exists on a spectrum.

Whilst a number of prominent transgender people such as Caitlyn Jenner have helped to shed light on the issue, there are sections of the transgender community who remain misunderstood by cisgender people. In particular, those who are gender-fluid.

Gender-fluid people do not have a fixed gender. Unlike those who are non binary and identify as neither male or female, gender-fluid people’s identity varies from day to day or week to week. This means that their pronouns can include he, she and they.

To raise awareness, Tabitha/Tate Downs-King appeared on Good Morning Britain. Born biologically female and identifying as female in the interview, she explained that she does not know what gender she will be on any one day until she wakes up in the morning.

The 20-year-old’s explanation of her gender shocked the show’s famously outspoken host Piers Morgan, who has clashed with members of the transgender community in the past. Instead of attempting to understand her gender, he labelled Downs-King as “confused”.

Morgan’s opinion of Downs-King’s gender was formed entirely based on her family background. Her divorced parents are both women, and her biological father is transgender. They encouraged Downs-King to play with gender neutral toys when she was growing up.

“I’m not confused about being male and female, it just takes a couple of minutes to work out,” she replied when Morgan implied that her gender was the result of her upbringing.
