Paris Jackson Posts A Very Telling Tribute To Grandfather Joe Jackson

Joe Jackson, the controversial father of the late Michael Jackson and his other famous siblings, died on Wednesday at the age of 89.

The man, who everyone knew as the intimidatingly stern head of the Jackson household, was the driving force behind the hugely popular 70s band, The Jackson Five.

The band was famously made up of the brothers in the Jackson household, including Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and the eventual megastar of the bunch, Michael.

And Joe, being the ambitious disciplinarian that he was, began enforcing very intense rehearsals for his sons.

Most of us only know the Jackson Five as the success story they ultimately became. But, they actually had a very humble beginning. They were formed in 1964 in Gary, Indiana and initially performed in talent shows and various high school functions.

A couple of years later, Joe began booking his sons in more prestigious venues until eventually, he arranged a gig for them at the renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City.

Then in 1967, the boys scored their first professional contract with Gordon Keith, the owner and first president of Steeltown Records. This would be the start of incredible things for the brothers, and Michael in particular.

The male siblings in the family aside, Joe also helped turn Janet into a global superstar.

But in spite of the role he played in securing the successes of his children, Joe had often been criticised in the media for the alleged physical, mental, and emotional abuse he subjected his them to.

In fact, in a 1993 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Michael told the media mogul that he was so terrified of his father that he’d be physically sick in his presence.

“He was very strict. He was very hard. Just a look would scare you… There have been times when he’d come to see me, and I would get sick. I’d start to regurgitate.”

A decade later, Joe Jackson took part in a BBC interview with Louis Theroux and when confronted with the accusation of physical abuse until the point of nausea, Joe responded by saying: “[Michael] regurgitates all the way to the bank. That’s right.”

He also insisted: “I whipped [Michael] with a switch and a belt… [but] I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick.”

It appears he remained convinced, until the very end of his life, that he was right to discipline his children in the way that he did.

The former manager of the Jackson Five, Michael, and Janet lived a long, presumably comfortable life until he developed terminal pancreatic cancer.

Ultimately, he died two days after the nine-year anniversary of Michael’s death.

John Branca and John McClain, on behalf of King of Pop’s estate, released a statement mourning Joe’s death:

“We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family. Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana, to worldwide pop superstardom.”

Soon after news broke that Joe had passed away, Michael’s only daughter Paris, took to Instagram to share a poignant and detailed tribute to her grandfather and revealed she made him “promise”, just before he died, that he would visit her as a ghost.

The 20-year-old model posted a photo on her Instagram page of her hand holding Joe’s hand in a hospital bed, captioning it:

“Spending those last few moments with you were everything. being able to tell you everything I needed to tell you before saying goodbye was such a blessing. everyone that came to visit you, came with love, respect, and so much pride in their hearts for you.”

“You are the first true Jackson. the legend that started it all. none of us would be anywhere near where we’re at if it weren’t for you. you are the strongest man i know. your life’s work will go down in history, as will you, to be known as one of the greatest patriarchs to ever live.”

“I will cherish every moment with you til the day I die, especially our last moments. being able to hold your hand, lay with you and cuddle you, give you kisses all over your cheeks and forehead, meant more to me than you’ll ever know.

Quoting advice you gave me when I was a little kid and seeing your eyes light up, sharing stories my dad used to tell me about you, telling a joke and hearing you laugh for the last time… my heart is full knowing we left each other in that way.”

“I made you promise me you’ll come visit me. You agreed and I’m going to hold you to it. and I promised you that we will keep telling your story, over and over. to never be forgotten. my great grandchildren will know who Joseph Jackson is.

I love you, grandpa. so so so much that words can’t describe. i have immense gratitude for you, and always will. we all feel that way. thank you for everything. truly. rest in peace and transition. I’ll see you in my dreams very very soon.”

Paris’ older brother, Prince, shared his own tribute on Instagram and also expressed nothing but warm and loving sentiments:

“This man is and always will be an example of sheer willpower and dedication. He didn’t choose the path that was the easiest but he choose the path that was best for his family.”

“You taught me to take pride in the Jackson name and what it really means, you taught me dedication in the face of adversity and most of all you showed me strength and fearlessness. There is and never will be someone like you. Fly free and until we meet again The Hawk.”

Of course, what we have heard about Joe Jackson in the press doesn’t change the fact that he had plenty of loved ones who are now mourning his death.

We wish the entire family nothing but the best at this time.
