10 Jul Pablo Escobar’s Old Mansion Has Been Turned into an Extravagant Hotel that Anyone Can Stay at
Pablo Escobar’s story is one of the most insane things you will ever come across. The drug kingpin of Colombia was so wildly successful in his illegal dealings that there was almost nothing he didn’t try out. When your cartel supplied 80% of the cocaine to the United States, turning over $21.9 billion a year in personal income, you can bet your lifestyle will be outrageous enough to meet it.
If you’ve seen the popular Netflix show Narcos, which details his exploits and the actions of the justice system pursuing him, you’ll know he lead a crazy life. Before he was shot and killed by the Colombian National Police in 1993, he had already owned his own personal zoo containing elephants and giraffes, made it to Forbes’ list of the richest men in the world, and was elected to be a congressman.
The drug lord earned $70 million a day at the peak of his career. He spent $1,000 a week just on the rubber bands used to keep wads of cash together. He had so much money to keep track of that he didn’t even notice when 10% of the cartel’s income was lost just by rats getting into the storage room and ruining the notes. So as you can imagine, some of his properties were the peak of luxury. But what happened to these properties after his death?
