OJ Simpson Could Be Set For Early Release From Prison

OJ Simpson’s story has been one of an astonishing fall from grace. A Heisman Trophy winner in 1968 and a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Simpson’s career as a running back was a highly successful one, widely considered one of the finest running backs to ever ply his trade in the NFL.

Success followed Simpson after his athletic career ended. He went on to become a sports pundit, actor and bona fide world famous celebrity long before the “Trial of the Century” that would at once grip and divide an entire country. Of course, OJ Simpson was subsequently acquitted of the murders of his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

Though Simpson walked away from the trial a free man, he was subsequently arrested – and found guilty this time – having attempted to recover sports memorabilia and other personal affects that the former running back insisted belonged to him. He has now served over eight years for that crime – armed robbery and assault with a weapon – according to the Independent, and is fast approaching the nine year minimum sentence of a possible 33 year stint behind bars.

He will have a hearing on Thursday, during which the possibility of his release will be decided, and it seems highly likely that Simpson could walk free.
