NFL Star Tom Brady Is Being Slammed For His ‘Dad Bod’ As Shirtless Pictures Emerge Online

In recent years, there has been a definite surge in the number of people professing their love for the ‘dad bod’ on social media. In particular, young women have been sharing exactly what it is that they love about guys who have this so-called dad bod.

“What’s not to love about a man who is pretty much softer all over?” some may argue. I mean, it just means that they’ll be an absolute delight to cuddle with on a cold, winter’s night, right?

Well, Twitter user Grace Fisher certainly seems to agree. She has a very valid argument: When you’re lying on your guy’s chest, wouldn’t you rather it be a nice comfy surface as opposed to a rock-hard one?

Now people with dad bods aren’t necessarily overweight; they just have a bit of a belly and don’t have those classic washboard abs that society has told them they should aspire to.

Yep, there’s just something about the dad bod that makes men seem more natural and relatable.

(I mean, they’re so damn desirable they’re even releasing fanny packs that replicate dad bods!)

But do girls really like the dad bod?

Incredibly, the dad bod has become an actual bona fide trend, and it’s one of those trends that really requires no effort. Yep, men with ‘dad bods’ who are the lookout for a lady can truly rejoice. Think of all the beer they can enjoy without having to make time for the gym…

Women, in particular, love the look because it’s less intimidating. Let’s face it, we have a ton of insecurities and so when a guy isn’t crazy fit and comfortable in his own skin, we can sort of relax instead of working our asses off to prove we’re worthy of being seen with him.

It also means when we go out to eat, we don’t have to worry about really going all out and stuffing our faces because our guy will be right there with us.

However, the fact is we live in a world full of diverse opinions, tastes, and perspectives and, of course, not everyone is a fan of the dad bod. Like the ones who are more likely to drool over the Adonis-type body…

And that is all well and good, but it is when people start calling out and shaming thse guys who don’t necessarily meet these standards that it starts to become a problem.

Because although we tend to place special emphasis on the insecurities that women have about their physical appearance, the truth is, men can be just as insecure about theirs.

I mean, if men weren’t that bothered about how they looked, there wouldn’t be half as many of them toiling away at the gym all so they can achieve what they believe is the ideal body.

Dad bod shaming can be pretty harmful, especially if the owner of said dad bod happens to be in the public eye. That’s exactly what happened to Tom Brady when he was photographed on a beach in Costa Rica kissing his supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen. Lovely, right?

But it wasn’t the fact that he was being intimate with his stunning bikini-clad wife, that caught people’s attention. It was the fact that he dared to go to the beach without a pair of bulging biceps and rock-hard abs to show for himself, leading to a whole load of body-shaming on Twitter.

Twitter users from all over the world slated the 40-year-old New England Patriots quarterback for not being ripped, some even went on to suggest that he had a ‘dad bod’.

“I’m old and out of shape and somehow look just as good as Tom Brady,” wrote one user.

Part of the reason Brady got so much flack was that he had just released a nutrition book in September, called The TB12 Method. The book was criticized for how rigid and strict it was, for instance, eating a strawberry is considered a treat…

“Tom Brady lying about his diet,” wrote another user. “His body is TRASH still.”

Other Twitter users, the majority of whom were Patriots fans, made a point of defending the quarterback, saying that his game on and off the field is still incredible. Even when he’s up against players who are considerably more ripped…

“If you think that’s not up to par for the NFL body, shouldn’t you be embarrassed he dismantles your team every week,” another wrote.

Well haters, Tom Brady is going to be sticking around a while and has said that he would like to play in the NFL until he’s 50.

“I always said my mid-40s and naturally that means around 45. If I get there and I still feel like I do today, I don’t see why I wouldn’t want to continue,” Brady told ESPN last year. “If you said 50, then you can say 60, too, then 70. I think 45 is a pretty good number for right now. I know the effort it takes to be 40. My love for the sport will never go away. I don’t think at 45 it will go away.”

Personally, I now hope Brady does indeed stick around until he’s at least 50 just to prove to people that the ‘dad bod’ really can go the distance.
