02 Aug Navy Veteran Surgeon Offers Free Procedures For Trans Military Patients
Last week, Donald Trump took to his preferred method of communication, Twitter, and abruptly announced that all transgender individuals would no longer be allowed to serve in the military.
In a move that dismayed his detractors and, unsurprisingly, vast swathes of the transgender community, President Trump wrote that the US military “cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail”, an assertion that led commentators to point out the many contradictory costs that the US military does front.
It is, of course, only the latest in a long line of divisive policy proposals, apparently misguided comments and out and out blunders from President Trump and members of his team, who have lurched with alacrity from scandal to mishap seemingly since assuming the White House.
ABC News, meanwhile, reports that the Pentagon is yet to receive any “formal guidance” from the White House in the wake of Trump’s tweets on transgender military personnel.
Regardless, Dr Christine McGinn, a US Navy veteran who also happens to be a transgender woman, has decided to take matters into her own hands.
