Muhammad Ali Has Perfect Response To “Not All White People Are Racist”

One of the greatest heroes in African American history is boxer Muhammad Ali. He used his success in the boxing ring to break down the barriers which the white establishment had created for black people, at a time when racial tensions were particularly prevalent.

Unfortunately, despite a number of steps being taken towards achieving racial equality around the world since then, racial tensions are becoming more prevalent again, with the FBI reporting an increased number of racially motivated hate crimes in 2017.

Because of this, many people are looking BACK to Ali for inspiration on how to combat racism, and one of the greatest examples of his impeccable gift-of-the-gab on the subject came in a 1971 interview with Michael Parkinson when he was posed with the phrase “well, not all white people are racist”.

“There are many white people who mean right and in their hearts want to do right,” Ali said to Parkinson.

“If ten thousand snakes were coming down that aisle now, and I had a door that I could shut, and in that ten thousand, one thousand meant right – one thousand rattlesnakes didn’t want to bite me, I knew they were good – should I let all these rattlesnakes come down, hoping that that thousand get together and form a shield? Or should I just close the door and stay safe?”

The late great boxer then asks, “Do you understand?”
