14 May Mom Accepted She’d Never Hear Daughter’s Voice, But One Car Journey Changed Everything
Hearing your child’s first world is a huge milestone, but when you’re the parent of an autistic, non-verbal child, that day may never come. So when it did come for one mother of a non-verbal child, it wasn’t just a milestone, but a miracle.
Briana Blankenship from Athens, Alabama, was told that her daughter, Taylor, would never speak, but earlier this week, Taylor proved doctors wrong and said her first words at the age of five.
To witness the emotional miracle of Taylor’s first words for yourself, check out the video below:

Taylor has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder. This affects the way she learns, communicates, and interacts with others. As a result, Briana had accepted that she would never hear her daughter’s voice.
“We communicate with limited sign language and gestures,” Briana explained. “We also have an iPad that is locked so that the only program she can access is a communication program called LAMP.”
“LAMP is what she uses to complete work in school and because of this, she is excellent at spelling especially for a five-year-old,” she added. Taylor is in an inclusion kindergarten class. She also participates in gymnastics classes, which have helped her to follow instructions.
